In an effort to extract the best possible image ability and information from their photos, many Nikon photographers have opted to shoot in Raw format. Putting their Digital Slr cameras in Raw mode, Nef (Nikon Electronic Format) files are produced, instead of the default Jpeg (Jpg) format.
Raw files contain a great deal of information, and there are many software programs on the market that are ready to decode this facts and convert it into Jpg, Png and such. Some of these programs are free, although most of the best ones aren't. Adobe Photoshop and Nikon Capture Nx fall into the non-free category.

Back in April of this year, Nikon introduced their upgrade to the Nikon D5000 with the newer and enhanced D5100 model. Probably right off the bat, once you pick up this camera, you're going to observation a larger Lcd screen (3.0") than the old 2.7" screen. If you're into capturing Hd Video, then you're going to love the ability to report Full Hd video (1920 x 1080 @ 30 frames/sec with a bit rate of 18 Mbps at the highest ability setting) with sound for 20 minutes or until the file size hits 4Gb. The camera records all things in monaural sound, but by adding an optional a stereo microphone you will then use the port on the side of the camera. I don't know about you, but I like my manuals to be on a Cd-Rom where I can print out exact pages when I need them as opposed to going straight through a pre-printed manual.
In summary, I think this is just a great camera from Nikon as it's a nice step up from the D5000 with all of the enhancements, but not yet in the type of the Nikon D7000 nor does it have the hefty price tag of the D7000 either. Filters are plastic or glass layers settled in front of the lens of a camera to block inevitable light waves to reach the sensor. Although most filters are designed for Dslr lenses, generic filters can also be purchased and used together with compact digital cameras.
There are many filters out there but I am going to talk about three of the most useful types.
The first one is called the Uv filter. Uv stands for ultraviolet and it is the electromagnetic rays that can damage your skin and your camera sensor. If most of your photography activities are indoors then this filter may not be useful for you. But it is extremely critical for outdoors. This filter not only protects the sensor from ultraviolet rays but it also physically protects the front of the lens. This is one of the most generic and cheapest filter but extremely essential.
The second one is called the Cp-L filter. This filter is actually a polarizer. The filter has a polarizer that can be rotated on a thin surface. This filter allows photographers to adjust inevitable light rays to pass straight through the lens and onto the sensor. This filter is handy to minimize reflections from a subject. For example, when shooting a lake, a polarizer may be used to sell out the reflection of the lake, enabling the camera to visibly see the fishes swimming in the lake.
The third one is called Nd Grad. Filter. This is an acronym for Neutral Density Graduation filter. Unlike the old two filters, this filter is separated into two separate regions. The filter is separated into half and one region is darker than the other. The dark region gradually becomes light as it approaches the other half. This filter is useful for scenery photography when the sky is normally overexposed to compensate the exposure of the land. This filter is use to darken the sky and balances the exposure stops between the sky and the land to furnish an equally exposed subject.
